Funeral service for Ms. Florence Jennette Porter, 85 of Killeen, TX will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2025, 12:00 p.m. at Anderson Chapel AME Church in Killeen, TX. Burial will follow the service at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Killeen, TX.
Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service (11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) at the church.
Ms. Porter passed away November 29, 2025, in Killeen, TX. She was born June 22, 1940, in Corsicana, TX.
Florence was born in Corsicana, Texas on June 22, 1940 to Mae Bell Lofton. She attended Dunbar High School in Temple, Texas.
Florence worked for many years for the Army Air Force Exchange (AAFES) at Fort Hood, Texas. She also worked at Texas State Optical and provided services for Dr. Ford. She was in the Ladies Auxillary of VFW post 9191, where she also worked as a Bartender. Florence was a Loyal Lady of Central Texas Assembly #306 Order of the Golden Circle, Killeen, Texas. For many years Florence was a member of the Central Texas Masonic family, belonging to Starlight Chapter #455 Order of the Eastern Star, E.L. Downing Court #237 and Nubia Court D.O.J. 190. Florence faithfully served all in various roles.
Florence enjoyed cooking soul food dinners for family, neighbors and friends. She also enjoyed bowling. She was on numerous bowling teams and won many trophies. Florence was a source of Stability in the Marlboro Heights Community for more than 61 years. She served as a neighborhood mother, mentor, and a steady source of love and support to many. She served on the Usher Board at Anderson Chapel A.M.E. Methodist Church in Killeen, Texas.
Florence was preceded in death by her mother and two brother. She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Sherry Cason and Janice Tisby of Killeen, TX, Cathy Pride of Temple, TX, and Brenda Porter (Dunson) of Augusta, GA; son, Anthony Jones of Abilene, TX; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
