Funeral services for Ms. Fantasia Schmeka Woods 43, of Killeen, Texas will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021, 1:00 p.m. at Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church in Copperas Cove, Texas. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ms. Woods passed away June 27, 2021, in Killeen.
Fantasia Schmeka Woods was born and raised in Chicago Illinois. She graduated from Collins High School and began her studies towards a career as a Pharmacy Technician at Malcolm X College. After a couple of years there her drive for independence pushed her to enlist in the United States Army. Where she served 10 years that included multiple tours in the Iraq War from January 2004 – February 2005 and again from January 2009 – November 2009. She terminated official military affiliation with an honorable discharge and was awarded many medals to include: 4 Army Commendation Medals, 2 Army Achievement Medals, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, 3 Army Good Conduct medals, a National Defense Service medal, a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Korean Defense.
In the span of her military career Fantasia reenlisted once after beginning it through the delayed entry program. After her service termination date, she retained 47 more days for the convenience of the government per title 10 of US code 12305; which is the authority of the President to suspend certain laws relating to promotion, retirement, and separation. While serving in a designated imminent danger area, Iraq, Fantasia earned more service decorations. They are the Iraq campaign medal w/ campaign star, 2 non-commissioned officer professional development ribbons, an Army service ribbon, 3 overseas tour service medals, a combat action badge, as well as certification for Driver and Mechanical Badge with Driver – tracked vehicle(s).
Upon her return to the civilian world, she completed an Applied Science degree at Central Texas College, Killeen, Texas and began a career as a full-time mom. Fantasia was present in all aspects of her children's lives both in and outside the home. Ranging from at home projects, celebrations, school trips, festivities, as well as sporting their events at home and away.
She joined Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church on April 20, 2014.
Fantasia leaves behind to cherish her memories her daughters Reagan and Rionna Woods, Killeen, Texas; father, Harold Woods, Chicago, Illinois; mother, Vernell Woods, Killeen, Texas; brother, Mandreion Woods, Chicago, Illinois; sister Aerial Woods, Omaha, Nebraska; grandmother, Lela Floyd, Ware, Mississippi; a special friend, niece, nephews, a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
