Funeral service for Mrs. Erika K. Reid, 74 of Killeen, TX will be held Friday, October 13, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Christian House of Prayer in Copperas Cove, TX. Burial will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 12, 2023 (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX.
Mrs. Reid passed away September 17, 2023, in Killeen, TX.
ERIKA KWITON REID was born July 6, 1949, in Klein Gerau, West Germany to the late Vaclay Kwiton of Prog, Czechoslovakia and Selma Ann Anger of Klein Gerau, West Germany.
After graduating from Gross Gerau High School, she completed her studies in gymnastics, and began working at Schrelynn's School of Gymnastics as a trainer and body building instructor. In September 1969, while traveling with a German band at Cambra Fritz Kaserne in Darmstadt, Germany, Erika met the love of her life, David Matthew Reid.
David and Erika married on February 28, 1972, at the Military Chapel at Cambra Fritz Kaserne. To this union of 51 years five beautiful children were born.
Erika was saved in 1986 and became an active member of the Christian House of Prayer under the leadership of the late Bishop Nathaniel Holcomb on November 1, 1987. She served as an ordained deaconess alongside her husband, Deacon David for many years.
As a hardworking, dedicated wife and mother, Erika touched many lives. Her career included being a licensed insurance agent for AL Williams and Capital Choice; working at Housing Referral in Karlsruhe, Germany; the Soldier's Dome at Ft. Hood; the HEB Bakery Shop in Harker Heights; PTA secretary at Sugarloaf Elementary School in Killeen; and lastly, she was a Correctional Officer for TDCJ in Gatesville, where she retired from in 2009. She was also a volunteer and an Advance Funeral Planning Agent for Chisolm's Family Funeral Home.
Erika was preceded in death by her parents, Vaclay Kwiton and Selma Anger; her son, John M. Reid; and three siblings, Irane, Elvera, and Margit.
Left to cherish her loving memories are: her husband, David M. Reid, Sr.; her four children, David M. Reid, Jr., Ronald M. Reid, Peachetta M. Reid, and Tyrone M. Reid; her sister, Karen Huttel; her three sisters-in-law, Bernadine Evans-Anderson, Barbara Diggs, and Edna Reed; her three special nephews, Jerry (Linda) Pasley, Gary Pasley, and BJ Pasley; her special niece, Corina (Elliot) Custard; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and friends.
