Graveside service with military honors for Mr. Edward Bing Miller, 76 of Killeen, TX will be held Thursday, September 28, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Edward Bing Miller, a distinguished and courageous individual, peacefully departed from this world on September 5, 2023, at his residence in Killeen, Texas. Born on August 26, 1947, in Hubbard, Texas, to Jessie Eugene Miller and Lee Earmer Miller, Edward's journey was one marked by unwavering determination and remarkable achievements.

Edward's pursuit of knowledge and justice led him to graduate from the University of Southern California with a degree in criminal justice. His commitment to upholding the principles of justice and equality inspired him to run for the esteemed position of town Judge.

Upon completing his university education, Edward answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Army. He bravely served his country during the Vietnam War, where he distinguished himself as a Special Forces Officer and later as an Aa1g gunship pilot. His dedication and valor during this period were nothing short of extraordinary, amassing over 2500 flight hours and participating in more than 25 aerial missions. Notably, Edward became the first African American to pilot the Bell AH-1 Cobra helicopter, breaking barriers at a time when racial segregation still cast a shadow over the nation. His fearless spirit earned him the nickname "Dark Horse." Edward's unwavering commitment to duty and honor was recognized through the presentation of the Heroism medal thirty-five times, along with other prestigious accolades including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Beyond his illustrious military career, Edward was a beloved uncle who will forever hold a special place in the hearts of his family. He was a beacon of calmness, honesty, and generosity, endearing himself as the "fun uncle" who shared his passion for horseback riding and entertained with his DJ skills at his very own club.

Edward's legacy lives on through his daughter, Janice Anderson, his cherished grandchildren Jonique Anderson and C'eante Anderson, and his great-grandson Dulani Jones. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry his memory with them. Among those who mourn his passing are his brother-in-law Ivory R. Herd Jr., nephew Ivory Herd (Phyllis), niece Sharon Brown (Christopher), Deborah Anderson (Terry), and cousin Joliett Harge.

Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Darlene Miller, his mother Lee Earmer, father Jessie, sister Erma Jean Herd, and uncles Zevary (Scrap) and Leonard (LG) Harge.

Edward Bing Miller's life was an inspiration, marked by his courage, resilience, and dedication to his country and family. He will be forever remembered for his trailblazing achievements and the enduring love he shared with those who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were touched by his presence.
