Obituary

Funeral service for Mrs. Doris Ruth Gibson 85, of Copperas Cove, TX will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Viewing will be held two hours prior to the service (9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.) at the funeral home.

Interment will be held Monday, March 11, 2024, 3:00 p.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Mrs. Gibson passed away February 28, 2024, in Copperas Cove, TX.

Doris Ruth Demic was born on the 21st of June 1938 to Mary Luellen Smith and Pearl Alexander Demic. She passed away February 28, 2024, in Copperas Cove, TX.

Doris was born and raised in Hannibal, MO., where she attended the historic Douglass School for African American students. Although she didn't know it at the time, she would soon meet the love of her life while just in the first grade. Doris and Howard Russell Gibson both attended Douglass School until it was integrated their junior year to Hannibal High School. They were married on the 29th of December 1957, at the Eighth & Center Street Baptist Church in Hannibal, MO. Their union blessed them with four children, Doris, Julia, Howard Jr., and Bertha.

Doris was dedicated to her family, and she was also a devoted military wife who proudly stood beside her husband for his 22 years of service. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, crafting, and attending local football games. Her greatest enjoyment was caring and helping raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memories: her children, Doris Marie Luellen (Harold), Julia Anita (Samuel), Howard Russell Jr (Tabitha), and Bertha Marietta; seven grandchildren, Tracie, Justin, Russell, Melissa, Nathaniel, Natalie, and Joshua; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Howard Russell Gibson; two infant brothers Robert Leroy and Pearl Jr. as well as brothers, William Perry Demic, James Demic, George Samuel Demic; and sisters, Mary Berthia Cole, and Sarah Reese.
