Mrs. Davis passed away July 29, 2021 in Killeen, TX. She was born December 2, 1940, in Corsicana, TX
Donnie Lou Thomas-Davis was born on December 2, 1940, in Corsicana, Texas, to Charles F. Thomas and Evelyn Slaughter. She was the third of eight children. Donnie professed her faith in Jesus Christ early in life and was a member of Grace Temple AME Church in Corsicana, Texas. She later married and relocated to Killeen, Texas, where she united as a charter member of Adams Chapel AME Church - Harker Heights, Texas, in 1980. She served diligently in many capacities, including Steward, Usher, Church Treasurer, Missionary, and as a member and president of the organized Lay.
Donnie loved the AME Church in general and the Lay Organization in particular. She served in leadership roles in the Lay Organization as a local president, conference president, and district officer. She also served as a member of the State Board of Trustees under Bishop Ingram and, until her demise, served as the corresponding secretary for the Northwest Texas Board of Trustees. Over the years, Donnie participated in several biennials and attended numerous general conferences. She lent her voice and vote to pass legislation and elect bishops for the benefit of Texas and all AME's around the world.
Donnie received her formal education in Corsicana Public Schools. Her formative years were at Fredrick Douglas Elementary School, and her Junior High and High School years were at G.W. Jackson. She graduated from G. W. Jackson High School in 1958 and later attended Paul Quinn College-Waco.
Donnie lived a full, active life. Her family and friends will most remember her positive attitude, her no-nonsense approach to problem-solving, and most of all, her love of family and friends. She loved to talk, and you never had to wonder where she stood on any issues. Donnie was a proud Army wife. She met and married her soul mate, the late Emory C. Davis ( Sergeant First Class, Retired ) and settled in Killeen, Texas, to raise their family.
On July 29, 2021, Donnie's journey ended on this side of the Jordan, and her new life began in the presence of the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Evelyn, her husband, Emory; three brothers: Harvey (Ora), William (Margaret), and Preston; one sister, Josephine (George); two sons: Tony Bernard (Tameka) and Lee Arthur (Kathy).
She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters: Vickie Holt-Sandiford of Killeen, Texas, Sophia Holt-Watkins of Harker Heights, Texas, Tonia Davis-Norman of Killeen, Texas, and Kim Tillis (Randy Garris) of Killeen, Texas.
Her grandchildren Toni, Whitney, Shagala, Lateefah, Larry (deceased), Lee (deceased), Devlin, William, Patrick, Ahmad Sr., Sabrina, Lloyd, Donnie Lou, Tihisha, Destiny, Yamelette, Shelia, Queemelia, Joseph, and Tonneey, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and well-wishing friends.
