Denzell (DJ) Roderick Jordan – aka "Sleepy the Barber" was born on June 30, 1992, in Killeen, Texas to Renate Shannon and Kevin A. Jordan.  He was instantly the beloved brother to his two older sisters LaToya Spencer and Tasha Pearson, as well as the automatic best friend and cousin to Clarence R. Williams, Jr.

He attended Killeen High School and R & E Cosmetology and Barber College.

Denzell was known by many names. To his cousins and friends, he was usually called "DJ" or "D" – but to his uncles and aunts he was known as Denzell.  To his many clients who came to him for top-of-the-line haircuts he was known as "Sleepy the Barber". But the name he was most proud of was "DAD" which he was called by his young son Kevyn.  Above all he was a devoted father and those who knew him best knew Kevyn was the most important thing in his life.

Denzell was honest, loving, motivated and determined.  He had a dream to be the best barber and he went after that dream by entering and winning several barbering competitions.  After cutting hair in both Killeen and Houston, DJ moved to Los Angeles, California to hone his skills further.

Denzell loved spending time with family, his two dogs, playing basketball and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He was kindhearted and compassionate and often in his off time he feed and gave free haircuts to the homeless on Skid Row.

Denzell entered eternal rest on September 29, 2022, but his spirit, his smile, and his love for those he called family and friends will live on forever.  He is preceded in death by his grandmother Hazel R. Winters.

He is survived by his son Kevyn Jordan and sons mother Kia Denson; his mother, Renate Shannon; father, Kevin A. Jordan; grandmother, Nelma Faye McDonald; grandfather, Theodus R. Shannon; sisters, LaToya Spencer, Tasha Pearson, and Kasey Stallworth; brother, Julian Smith his nieces, Kaleshia, Kiarra, Destini, Kaylah, Kaydence, Katelynn, and Tru; his nephews, Cedell, Jalian, Adrain, Harlem and Antonio as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Though DJ passed away young, the impact he left on everyone who knew him and the lives he touched along his journey are immeasurable. Love, light and a gorgeous smile.  That's what our family thinks when we think of Denzell Jordan or to many "DJ".
