Funeral services for TDCJ SGT Dennis Martin "CHOP" Polk 61, of Killeen, TX will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at Agape Church of God In Christ in Killeen, TX. Burial will follow the service at Killeen City Cemetery, in Killeen, TX.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen.

Mr. Polk passed away September 12, 2024, in Temple, TX.

Mr. Dennis "Martin" Polk, son of Verna C. Polk and the late Johnny S. Polk was born September 23, 1962 in Artesia, New Mexico. On February 3, 1958 Mr. and Mrs. Johnny and Verna Polk united in holy matrimony and six children were born from this union; Vandelyn Josephine, Johnny Calvin, Dennis Martin, Jacqueline Clarise, Wendell Edd and David Eugene Polk. He attended the public schools of Eddy County, Artesia and was a graduate of Killeen High School Class of 1981. Dennis was a very active decorated athlete of numerous sports which included baseball, basketball, football, track and field where he earned the nickname "Bob Hayes" -a Dallas Cowboy legend, in which he was a die-hard Cowboys fan. Throughout his youth he received the sports accolades of 2x little league All-star, track and field state championships, and state football championships. In 1979 the Polk family moved to Killeen Texas where he continued his legacy with the Killeen Kangaroos where his team won 2x state championship in track and field. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined Zion Temple COGIC in Harker Heights, TX under the late Bishop A. Ladell Thomas and was a dedicated member. He later joined Agape COGIC in Killeen, Texas under Superintendent Michael Johnson where he served faithfully as a Deacon and was an active member of the brotherhood and jail ministry.

After graduating high school he was employed by Ms. Alice Douse with the Killeen ISD which led to future employment with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice where he retired as a Sergeant after 23 years of service. After retirement he continued his criminal justice career with the Bell County Juvenile Detention Center, then later employed with the Coryell County Jail Facility and finalized his employment with Wackenhut Corporation.

Although Dennis may not have had children of his own, he selflessly and lovingly helped care for his nephews, nieces, cousins and loved ones. He benevolently devoted his life by honoring his late father by ensuring his mother was well taken care of.

As a result of his generous spirit and pleasant personality, he was loved by so many. His Christian life was as beautiful as the smile he would put on people's faces and his influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him. He quietly departed this life Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Baylor Scott and White hospital in Temple, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Shepard Polk, brother, Johnny Calvin Polk and sisters, Vandelyn Josephine and Jacqueline Clarise Polk.

Dennis Polk will forever be cherished in the lives of his mother, brothers, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of church family members and friends.
