Funeral service for Mrs. Clara "Kay" Catherine Locklear, 84 of Killeen, TX will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Killeen, TX. Burial will follow the service at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Killeen, TX.
Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service (10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.) at the church.
Clara "Kay" Locklear, 84, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025. She was surrounded by her beloved husband of 67 years and her daughter in the comfort of her home. She was born on January 13, 1941, in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Maxine Johnson and Alvin Johnson. Kay married the love of her life on January 23, 1958, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She met her husband two weeks prior at Liz Cafe, in Pueblo, Colorado. She was a long-time employee of the Post Exchange for over twenty years. After retirement, Kay went to work at Magic Mirror Hair Fashions for fifteen years until she had to retire due to a decline in health.
Kay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to everyone she met. She was a military wife to her husband, and they lived on various military bases. Kay is survived by her husband of 67 years, Baxton Locklear. Her four children, William Baxton Locklear, Cathy Ann Locklear, Peggy Jean Locklear, and James Edward Locklear. Her eight grandchildren to include Krystal Dawn Ross (Marvin), Jennifer Marie Pierce (Mark), Heather Rene'e Harris (EJ), Shawn Phillip Cain, Michelle Diane Cain, Nicole Aime'e Cain, James Gerald Locklear, and William Baxton Locklear. Her four great grandchildren to include Dale Andrew Pierce, Kiara Jasmin-Aurora Ross, Marvin (Tre) Huntz Ross III, and Sullivan (Sully) Arthur Harris. Her sister Barbara Jane Gowin, and nephews Gary Wayne Long, Danny Lee Gowin, and James Allen Gowin, and cousins to include Lori, Evelyn, and Mary Elizabeth.
Kay was preceded in death by her mother Maxine, father Alvin, brother in-laws Curtis and Walt, and nephews Curtis Alvin Long and Robert Joseph Long. Beloved dogs: Lassie, Boots, and Benji.
Kay was a long-time member and faithful servant of Calvary Baptist Church. She dedicated her life to the Lord on September 22, 1984. She had several church jobs to include Sunday School teacher for fifteen years, church treasury for ten years, cooking for the church, and shopping for the church.
