Funeral service for Mrs. Betty Jane Carter, 81 of Killeen, TX will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Greater Mt Hebron Bible Church in Dallas, TX. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service (10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.) at the church. Burial will follow the service at the Laurel Land Memorial Park Cemetery in Dallas, TX.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 9, 2024 (5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.) at Pershing Park Baptist Church in Killeen, TX.

Mrs. Carter passed away July 29, 2024, in Killeen, TX.  She was born July 29, 1943, in Chester, PA.

Betty Carter was one of seven children born to James Marshall and Addie Postelle Trippley of Chester, Pennsylvania. She was always fun, loving, enjoyed her family, and was very well known as a woman of God. Her caring spirit was noticed and felt by all that she encountered. Conversations with Betty would always include letting you know that you were "blessed by the best and… destined for success". Her words, conversations, and presence were "powerful" and always brought joy to all she met. She was one that you would honestly say that "she was truly blessed and highly favored".

After graduation from Chester High, she married her high school sweetheart, Lankford F. Wilson in 1961 and from this union came three children, Shelly, Wendy and Todd. While raising three small children, Betty attended nursing school and graduated in 1965 with a degree in nursing. Her career started as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital, in Chester, PA. Through trials and tribulations and the loss of her husband in 1969, Betty continued in faith and through prayers to press forward with life. She then moved on to work at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, MA, where she expanded her craft. She later met Tyrone I. Carter and they were married in 1973. In 1974, they decided to make New Castle, Delaware, their home for all the children. From their union came Terris I. Carter in 1977.

In her early years, she fellowshipped at Spencer Memorial and Shiloh Baptist Church in Chester, PA. Keeping God  rst and ensuring her young children knew the Lord, she made certain they all attended Sunday School at the Assembly of God.

New to Delaware, she joined St. Paul UAME Church under the late Bishop George W. Poindexter. Here, she was President of the Nurses Unit, member of the Daughters of Conference, served on the Stewart Board, a Stewardess, a Class Leader, and also sang with the St. Paul UAME Sanctuary Mass Choir.

During this time, she worked at St. Frances Hospital, Wilmington General Hospital, and completed her 34 years of service, retiring from Christiana Care Medical Center in Newark, DE as a Pediatric Nurse. She loved being a Pediatric Nurse as she was able to provide professional and personal care to her patients and build lasting relationships with co-workers.

In 2009, Betty and Tyrone moved to Cedar Hill, Texas, where she joined Greater Mount Hebron Bible Church under Pastor Fred Conwright. Here, she was a diligent and dedicated Sunday School Teacher, where she shared her joyous game of Bible Bingo, faithfully attended weekly Bible Study and Intercessory Prayer. She served under Watchcare at Pershing Park Baptist Church Pastor Dale Moye residing located in Kileen, TX. Betty loved the Lord and was vocally proud of her personal relationship with God.

Troughout her journey, she was known as a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, god mother, Sister in Christ and a true friend to many. She leaves behind a host of loving family to include her daughter, Wendy D. Wilson Washington (Kenneth); sons, Todd A. Wilson (Judenia), and Terris I. Carter (Latoshia); sisters, Vernoda Stillis (Nogie), Christine Hamilton, and Paula Postelle; grandchildren, Michael, Marcus (Ra'shea), Melinda, Cynthia (Marq), Bari, Jasmine (Jeremy), Trevoris (Kaitlyn), Naya, Trevor, Kenneth (Marissa), Kendra; 17 great-grandchildren; she was especially close to her god children, Chantel, Joyful, LeAndria; and a host of close family, friends, co-workers, and acquaintances. She was preceded in death by: her father, James Marshall; mother, Addie Postelle Trippley; husband, Tyrone I. Carter; daughter, Michelle L. Wilson Wheeler; and siblings, William Hamilton (Bill), Marilyn (Tripp) Trippley, Reginald Trippley, Carlos Trippley, Van Postelle, and LaVon Postelle.

She was very active and enjoyed travelling, sewing, baking, taking walks, singing, dancing, and playing Bible Bingo and Word Search Puzzles. She was active with the Texas Election Assistance Commission as a voter polling place assistant. She enjoyed visiting family and friends and vacationing to new places throughout North America, South America, and Europe. All these hobbies kept her busy, however, she cherished spending time praising the Lord and spreading his word.
