Bernice Watts McQueen was born on June 24, 1937, to Eugene Watts and Jennie Mae Yeldell in Greenville, AL. She was the youngest of four siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Connie Jones, sisters, Corrie Neal Blackmon, and Annie Jean Sturgeon.
Bernice met the love of her life William McQueen, and they were married on May 26, 1956. Together they traveled the world living in Germany, France, and different parts of the United States of America until they settled in Killeen, Texas. To this union, four children were born, Dwindle Williams, Patricia Robotham, William McQueen Jr., and Garry McQueen.
For many years, Bernice worked at the Holiday Inn in Killeen, Texas, and Darnall Army Hospital of Ft Hood, Texas where she made many friends.
When her husband, William McQueen, took ill in 1991, Bernice cared for him until his transition on August 13, 1991. After William passed, Bernice devoted her life to her family and young children. She took loving care of her eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Bernice devoted many years of her life caring for children as an in-home daycare provider, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those she cared for.
In her free time, Bernice enjoyed walking, playing bingo and gardening. She was also a wonderful gourmet cook. Everyone loved her delicious meals. Her holiday meals were not to be missed because she always whipped up collard greens, turkey, ham, dressing, macaroni and cheese, sweet potato pies and cheesecake.
