Service for Mr. Bernard Uvern McCoy, 70 of Killeen, TX will be held Friday, April 5, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Viewing will be held two hours prior to the service (9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.) at the funeral home.

Mr. Bernard (Butch) U. McCoy, 70, sadly departed from our family on March 24th, 2024, at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on February 8, 1954, to James Preston Scott and Emma May McCoy.

Growing up, Butch was a charming individual who always had a way with words. He was the youngest son among five children, with three older siblings, Eddie, Sherrie, and Gwendolyn, and one younger sister, Zan. He graduated from Lonoke High School in Lonoke, Arkansas, on May 26th, 1972. Shortly after completing high school, he joined the United States Army in 1973, serving for three years, including an overseas tour in Korea.

After an honorable discharge from the military, he returned to Arkansas to attend the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff before relocating across the United States and settling down in the Potrero Hill District of San Francisco, California. It was there that he met and fell in love with the woman of his dreams and wife of 47 years, Nettie (Toni) Howard. Through their union, he was blessed with the addition of five children whom he raised as his own. Together, they were also blessed with two more sons, Bernard, and James.

Butch was a dedicated family man and an active father, always ensuring that everyone was taken care of. He loved coaching his kids' teams, and even if he wasn't the official coach, you could often hear him coaching from the stands. Over his lifetime, he worked diligently to provide for his family, dedicating over 45 years to DataClean Services, the Hayward School District in California, and finally retiring from the Veteran Affairs Hospital system in 2021.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nettie (Toni) McCoy; his sister, Zandra Jean Glover; his children, Oniika (Kenneth) Okehie, Nigel (Eddie) Roberts, Nicole Howard, Bernard, and James McCoy. He cherished his grandchildren dearly: Joseph, Ronald, Soinkne, Kharsen, Royal, Janiya, Cole, Julian, Brooklyn, Bra'khale, and Kahmya. Additionally, he is survived by his adopted niece/daughter, Jami (Julian) Bertrand, and their children, Raegan, Kennedy, and Carter, along with numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved with all his heart.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Emma May McCoy, and father, James Preston Scott, as well as his siblings, Gwendolyn Winston, Sherrie Fentry, and Eddie Fentry, and his sons, Joseph (Shakey) and Marlon Howard, and his niece, April Glover.
