Funeral service for Mrs. Annie L. McMullen 75, of Killeen, TX will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church in Copperas Cove, TX. Burial will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service (10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.) at the church.

Sister Anne L. McMullen transitioned from labor to reward on October 7, 2025. She was the fifth of seven daughters born to the parentage of the late Otha and Irene Polk on September 4, 1950, in Bassfield Mississippi.

Anne attended Carver High School which later became Bassfield High School. After graduation she went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Mississippi Industrial College. She took courses part time at Ole Miss and received her Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instructions from The University of Houston. She started working on her Master's at the University of Maryland while her husband was serving in the military there. They were stationed in Killeen shortly thereafter.

Anne met Shannon in the biology hall at Mississippi Industrial College. She was going down the hall, and he bumped into her and complimented her on her beautiful legs. She told him "you must think you're cute and that nobody wanted him", LOL. He then proceeded to tell her that he was going to marry her. They were married 3 years after college on October 2, 1971; to that union one child, Shawn Demeras McMullen, was born on August 13, 1982.

Reverend McMullen and Anne were the Founder and Co-Founder of Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church in 1980. She visited a church in Katy, Texas where she came up with the designs for the church in Copperas Cove. She worked effortlessly and side by side with Reverend McMullen on the plans for the church.

Her church involvements included her being the church secretary, financial clerk, building coordinator, Sunday School teacher, Baptist Training Union member, District Secretary for student loans and a member of the Board of Directors.  She was an active member in all areas of the church and in the community. Anne was a loving and caring member of Bible Way as demonstrated in her concern for others as she visited them in their homes, the nursing homes and the hospitals.

She loved and looked forward to taking the trip to Belize with the Good Hope Western General Association in December of each year to take supplies and fellowship with the congregation.

She was a teacher to nineth grade students for 13 years at Killeen High School and also taught Middle school seventh and eighth grade Math. Anne became the Assistant Principal at Killeen High School and Nolan Middle School before becoming Principal at Smith Middle School.

After she became ill Anne went to Houston to live with her niece in January 2025. She fought the good fight and her faith never wavered.  Anne was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor Shannon D. McMullen; parents, Otha and Irene Polk; Sisters, Mary Katherine Wigley and Lola Jenkins DeFlanders.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories a son, Shawn Demeras McMullen; niece, Makiltru Fontenette (Darryl Fontenett, Sr.) Makiltru cared for her in Houston and Anne loved her as a daughter; grandchildren, Shannon Demeras McMullen, Taylor LaRue McMullen, Jonathan David McMullen, Jayden Isaiah McMullen, Syrian Miller McMullen, Darryl Fontenette, Jr. and Jackson Fontenette; Sisters, Mary McLeod, Bettye Collins (George), Lizzie Kayhea (Jerry) and Kathy Williams; Sister-In Laws, Louise, Betty and Vanessa; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
