Funeral service for Retired SFC Richard Savage, Jr., 75 of Killeen, TX will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Burial with military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.
Viewing will be held two hours prior to the service (9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.) at the funeral home.
An open public viewing will be held Monday, January 18, 2021 from (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) at the funeral home.
Richard Savage Jr. was born June 24, 1945 in Simonton, Texas and passed away on January 4, 2021 at the age of 75. He attended A.W. Jackson High school in Rosenberg, TX, graduating in 1964. There he was a member of the A.W. Jackson High school band as a marching soulful saxophonist. He was a remarkable musician and had an immense love for all musical genres, especially blues. His favorite song was Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton.
Richard was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Gladys Savage. Soon afterward, he departed for the Vietnam War serving as a Quartermaster, rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class before retiring. Richard's talents were many, he was a national news expert, music lover, and Dallas Cowboys number one fan. Richard was a pure comedian and had the ability to brighten everyone's day. There wasn't a day that went by without him making someone laugh. Richard read numerous informational books in his free time and was a cinema enthusiast. He was a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend who loved to entertain.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Richard Savage Sr. and Lillie Mae Savage; two sisters Daisy Savage, and Darlene Savage. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gladys Savage; son Anthony Savage and his wife Brenda, daughter Tiffany Savage-Akins, son Richard Savage III and his wife Tracey, son Gregory Savage and his wife Clarissa, daughter Tasha Gordon and her husband George; 4 grandchildren, Chanel Akins, Cory Savage, Kiyana Akins, and Wilbert Martin; siblings, Dorthy Savage, Stella Savage, Georgia Savage, Nancy Johnson, L.T. Savage., and a host of nieces and nephews.
